They are two of the hottest dancehall reggae acts coming out of Jamaica right now, and tomorrow night Gyptian and Vybz Cartel will be performing at the City Center. The concert along with Tanya Stephens has created quite a buzz across Belize where these young Jamaican men are seen as icons of popular culture. This evening they stopped by our studios to tell us why having a show in Belize is so special.
Vybz Cartel,
“Its good to be here in Belize, first time and definitely not the last. The reception from the people has been awesome. Almost unbelievable because the people know English good and they know all of the songs dem. As you said before, it is a different Central American country. The country knows English to the level that they know Jamaican Patois and can understand and that makes we as artists and ambassadors of the music feel good to know when we travel worldwide and to know that in Central America can still show love and appreciation.
Gyptian,
“I’m here to sing for the people in Belize so if you come to

party, I’m going to make you party and sing real songs of melody. So if you have your girl, you go with your shorty. If you have a man, you go with him because it will be a full party and dancing. I am from Jamaica you know we are entertainers so come out.
Vybz Cartel,
“Well tomorrow at the City Center, since it’s the first time, it will be trial and error without the error. We have an understanding what the people like but being the first time we just have to thread the water very carefully and select the right songs to move the Belizean people.
Gyptian,
“Serious times is facts. All I can see around us is just violence and crime. Its time for us to centralize and socialize so why wouldn’t we do hat. We need to show love and respect to each other. No song is local but definitely ‘serious time’ is facts of life. We are living in a serious time. You have bigger ones molesting smaller kids, gang war everyway so naturally ‘serious times’ is more like from the Almighty. He sent me a message and I come to deliver the message because I don’t think we know it’s a serious time because just continue to do the same thing and it shouldn’t be like that.
