The Women's Department this morning launched a new documentary on domestic violence. Its called "Domestic Violence: the Belizean Reality" and the one hour film tells tales of abuse and the ugly aftermath. It re-tells stories of Delvorine Duhaney, Lorna Wade, and even Tracy Donis, all of which you've seen on Channel 7 before. Director of the Women's Department Carol Fonseca says we've heard the stories before but they've never been told like this.
Carol Fonseca, Director - Women's Department
"What we have been doing is traveling throughout the country and capturing the true stories of women and girls throughout our country who have been going through domestic violence. So basically what it does is it relates the reality of what is happening in our country as it pertains to the whole issue of domestic violent. What we also did was to interview key persons within our society who are playing an instrumental role in helping to eliminate domestic violence.
The documentary is for everybody in our society. This morning I was so glad to see that we had members of the police, the BDF, we had social workers, counselors, we had nurses, doctors, we had students, and teachers coming out in full force showing a genuine commitment to helping us in our work towards eliminating domestic violence."
The 55 minute documentary will be aired following 7NEWS tonight.
