Planning for the 25th anniversary of Belize's Independence has commenced. The September Celebrations Committee which is chaired by Minister of Tourism Godfrey Smith gives a new meaning to the word inclusion. It has a membership of 22 with representation from every known area of legal human endeavor, from politics to churches to media, to law enforcement.
In two meetings, they've decided that the calendar of events will be launched by mid-July. A competition to select this year's theme with a cash prize of $1,000 to the winner was also launched. The public is also being asked to participate in the formulation of the calendar of events by submitting ideas for locally coordinated events for inclusion in the official calendar.
