They are all under twelve years old, but on Saturday one out of eight young girls will win the right to be called Miss Junesville. The eight girls, ranging in age from 8 to 12, are all from the Junesville Area of Lake Independence. Organizers say it is not a beauty pageant; they say it is a way for the girls to have fun and win "back-to-school supplies". We met the contestants this morning and we'll show you them in a bit but we'll start with Shannel Anthony who is one of the organizers.

Shannel Anthony, Organizer
"We're doing this for a back to school thing. The gifts they will be getting will be school supplies, helping the children and so, giving them the experience of what it feels like to getting older and participating in the pageant and so forth. Apart from that we haven't got a lot of sponsors but next time, next year we will make sure that we start early and everything and we get more sponsors; be early and on time."

Keith Swift,
Why did you decide to do it?

Shannel Anthony,
"Just for the kids. They wanted to do something fun so we said why not have a little pageant."

The contestants are: Brhea Bowen, Chelsey Vernon, Natasha Forman, Kadeejah Brooks, Andreah Benneth, Tyra Bradley, Shanice Guy, and Ishaida Brooks.

Miss Junesville will be chosen at the Lake Independence Community Center on Saturday. Showtime is 6 pm. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Pageant organizers are still looking for sponsors and if interested you can contact Tameca Baizar at 202-4823.
