250 Americans, not just North Americans, but Central, and Southern ones as well are in Belize for the 42nd Annual Partners of the Americas Convention. The partners have been doing goodwill work in Belize for 40 years, dating back to 1966 when George Price signed the agreement with the Governor of Michigan to form the partnership for what is known as the Belize Michigan Partners. For this year's event, the theme is affirming cultural identity and speaking at the opening, Prime Minister Said Musa said that in the Americas, one thing that can bind citizens is music.
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
"Belizean punta music and Central American rhythms just as melodic and contagious as the reggae soca and calypso music that entrance festival and carnival goers from the Bahamas all the way to Suriname. Reggaeton is but one of the felicitous results of intermingling and a category four hurricane causes as much damage in a Caribbean island as it does in any Central American country. The challenges of poverty and development are the same and the level of resources that are available to address the needs of our population are mirror reflections of scarcity."
This event concludes on November 18th.
