Once again the Rotary Club of Belize is partnering with the Salvation Army to make this Christmas a bit brighter for underprivileged children across the country. Toy barrels will be placed in supermarkets across the city. All you have to do is put your toy in there and it will go to a needy boy or girl. Through this effort, the Rotary club is expecting to collect two thousand toys for the Salvation Army. Edward Bouloy explains.
Eddy Bouloy, Rotary Club
"Basically we've put drop-off boxes in different strategic points and you can either by a new toy and drop it off or if you have a good used toy at home you are welcome to bring it and leave it here for us and you know that it will go to a very worthy cause. They are located in Brodies, Sav-U, Mirab, Hofius, and A&R. And actually Brodies has two locations, one in downtown Belize City and on the Northern Highway and we have both locations covered. So whichever is most convenient you can drop off your toys at that location. They've got the Rotary insignia on it and it says the toy drive. If you go into any of those stores and you don't see the barrel, please ask the people that work there and they'll point it out to you. These toys are given to the Salvation Army who has a Christmas party every year in mid-December and they host a party for two thousand kids. The first party is done in Belize City and that's not for two thousand kids total, that's for three or four hundred kids but then the rest of it goes out to the rest of the country."
The drive began early this year in the hopes of reaching the two thousand toy mark.
