Today is the anniversary of Bob Marley's birthday and for devout followers of the reggae icon, February 6th is a reason for celebration. For the past 16 years, followers of the man called 'Tuff Gong' have come together to pay tribute to his legend in the musical, political and cultural arenas. We spoke to Joel "Darra" Robinson who told us of a veteran's football match held on Sunday and Emmerson Guild the promoter of Bob Marley's birthday observance.

Emerson Guild,
"Today we are at Liberty Hall doing a music presentation and video presentation and we are also having discussions of the impact of Bob Marley's music on people around the world because everybody likes Bob Marley's music and lyrics. To us there is not that many heroes and Bob Marley to us is a hero so we celebrate him, his birth, and then the gift that he has left us in his music and his lyrics."

Alfonso Noble Reporting,
On Sunday you had an event, what was it?

Joel "Darra" Robinson,
"It was the tribute to Bob Marley/Dennis Brown Veteran Football game. It was successful, everybody represented. The main thing that touched me is that I had members from different blocks that you hear that have gang war like George Street and Majestic Alley, Ghost town, everybody came together as one and the music that was playing in the background and the kind of vibe just made everybody just humbled and just enjoy the music and thing."

The celebration begins at seven tonight at the Liberty Hall building on Barrack Road.
