For the past four years every year, the community of Rotarians has staged a play. Since 2004, it's become an annual fundraising event. And in the fourth year, they're staging a play called Breadfruit Kingdom. Rotarian Sandra Mckay says it's a great family event, and more than that it's good fun for a good cause, which is the Gift of Life programme.

"It is a fairy tale and it is about this king called King Street and his royal family, his queen of course is Queen Street and his daughter is Princess Street and she is horizontally challenged and has a flatulence problem. But anyway this is a king who in ruling over Breadfruit Kingdom, the peasants seem to think he oppresses them quite a bit by constantly raising taxes and asking for more than what they feel is the fair share for the kingdom. And so the story unfolds and it's very interesting as it unfolds because there is peaceful demonstrations and riots to let the voices of the people be heard. Anyway, in all that, there is so much humor because Patrick has been known to take these serious social issues and make light fun out of it for persons to really come and let down your hair, forget your stress, and just laugh and have a good time.
You'll love it Jules. Actually when we got into the whole performing arts, unexpectedly, we stumbled on it unexpectedly, we didn't realize how much fun it would be and the end of the day when you realize the cause for which you're doing it, it really makes it all worthwhile."

"We're this year doing the literacy program which means that you're then improving the quality of life for that child and then of course for our country ultimately because education is the key to success."
Apart from literacy, the Gift of Life holds pediatric cardiology clinics every year. The next is on August 22nd and if you have a child with a cardiology issue you can call 223-3292.
