That one shining moment of beauty unmatched: that's what pageant participants all dream of. And in September, the starry dynamos in those dream machines of would be beauty queens whirl madly - as those magical four words are issued from the pageant headquarters in the sky: Queen - of - the Bay. The first out the gate is the contest for the Miss Belmopan Queen of the Bay. It will be held on Friday August 18th and the four contestants are in the city on a one day media blitz. Their first stop was the BTL Southside Park which is where we met them.
Ronnie Coye, Camalote Village
"I am a pageant lover. I like to go out and do exciting stuff. I love pageants, I love to model, and I love to entertain people and it will be something good."
Sadia Mejia, Ontario Village
"I think I can do a lot for the people and I love Belmopan."
Kasey Gutierrez, Mountain View Site
"I decided to enter the pageant because I want to grow as a person and intermingling with people like myself, other teenagers and other young youths like myself, I feel good about myself and I want to work with them and grow as a person because I am very shy at times but this pageant will give me the strength to go on and be a better person. I want to grow as a person.
I would want to be the next Miss Belmopan because there are a lot of youths out there like myself doing nothing and I would like to help my community."
Shelly Scott, Roaring Creek Village
"I like adventures and I think this is an adventure. It will be exciting and stuff."
Leroy Green, Coordinator
"People can expect, as the young ladies said, an exciting time. They will be appearing first of all in African outfits because the theme of the contest is, 'many ancestors, one people - many assets, one nation,' and each girl will depict an element of the theme."
The winner of this event goes on to the national Queen of the Bay pageant in Belize City. The Belmopan pageant will be held on Saturday August 18th at the UB gym in Belmopan. Entertainment will be courtesy the Bruk Yuh Back crew from Mother Nature's Creation.
