It’s a small force, but the BDF had been deployed all across the Corozal District in the wake of Hurricane Dean: doing everything from cleaning up streets to building roofs to providing security for food reserves. And that’s why many thought the military tattoo would be canned from the September celebrations schedule. But, no, the BDF has taken the bold decision to roll right into the tattoo. Major Steven Ortega who just came in from Corozal is directing things and he told us that right about now, Belizeans need some diversion.

Major Steven Ortega, BDF
“The BDF are dedicated to being patriotic and all that and with the September celebrations and with the stress of all the hurricanes, we realize the population needs a stress release so the BDF will be performing and the Fire Service along with the police will be performing for the tattoo.”

Jules Vasquez,
What events will they have at the military tattoo?

Major Steven Ortega,
“We have various events. The BDF will be doing mock battle, they will be doing action drills, PT displays, unarmed combat, members of the Police Department will also be doing k-9 display, Fire Service will be doing hose drills and we also have the British Army who will also be doing some drills.”

The tattoo which involves police, BDF, fire service and BATSUB is now known as the national tattoo and it takes place on Friday night at the Marion Jones Complex. Adults are four dollars, and children one dollar.
