The Three Kings of Belize - it's a documentary film about three legendary Belizean musicians: Paul Nabor, Florencio Mes, and Wilfred Paters. The documentary has shown at film festivals all over the world, and this weekend, it's coming to Belize City. It was made by Katia Paradie, a Canadian who now calls Belize home. She spent four years from 2002 to 2006 with these music men and found out that their genius is in the small things. She told us more about the experience.
Katia Paradie,
"What I have tried to do with this movie is really getting to the intimate life to reveal intimate portraits of these three musicians because sometimes people that are on stage, we think we know them very well but then when you get into the life of someone that is popular, you realize that daily life is quite different from when someone is on stage. So I really wanted to capture those both things; like the musicians traveling and being musicians and stars and then as well their like more private life.
The audience, I hope they will love the movie of course but I hope this movie will make them reflect about their own passion in life; why are we living and for whom or what we are living for, what is important in life, and sometimes its not the big things that are really important. It is really the small things that I hope this movie will help people to discover.
I don't know if my movie will change anything but I don't know if my movie will change the way these artists are perceived in Belize but I hope people will appreciate them more for what they are and who they are and not only as an artist but as persons, as individuals that have a very very particular of seeing life. They are truly themselves from the beginning to the end."
The Three Kings of Belize premieres tomorrow night at the Princess. That opening is by invitation, and it will open to the public on Saturday and Sunday at 3 in the afternoon, and on Monday at 7 in the evening. Admission for all three showings is $10 for adults and $5 for students and kids.
