There's a general election coming up soon, but there'll be a new Chief Elections Officer presiding over it. That's because Chief Elections Officer Dorothy Bradley today confirmed that she is leaving the post. Bradley would only say that she was the acting Chief Elections Officer, and as of Monday she is going back to her substantive post as Assistant Accountant General.
Bradley took up the post of Chief Elections Officer in December of last year. She became the first public servant to preside over the office in more than a decade - as she had been preceded by a succession of contract officers.
But while she came in on a crest of promise, our sources say she leaves in a swirl of contention. Bradley reportedly had major administrative differences with her CEO from the Governance Ministry Myrtle Palacio. Insiders tell us that those differences were many, but recently fixed on overtime payments that were due to staff for extra hours in the hectic pre-election transfer period. Today Palacio wouldn't comment on any dispute only to say that it is sometimes a trying office. Palacio says she expects a new Chief Elections Officer to be named shortly.
