Eggs are $7 a dozen when you can get them, but at least five Belize City families will not have to worry about buying food over the Christmas holiday thanks to a donation from the staff and management of Scotia Bank. The hampers are valued at close to three hundred dollars each and were presented during a brief ceremony at the bank's headquarters on Albert Street. 7NEWS was there.

How does the bank decides which family is need of these hampers?

Cecil Arnold, Senior Manager - Scotia Bank
"Selectively we asked the staff to identify people in their neighborhood and people who we know have employment challenges perhaps families who do not have both spouses working, families with lots of kids so those are the criteria and this year we had the help of one young man Devon Jones, I think it was, who has a feeding programme and he helped us to identify two of the families. It is variety of food items. We try to cater to the basic need and at the same time provide a variety of food items and the staff did the shopping on their own also "

Delma Bradley, Mother of five children
"Well right now it will help me a real lot because I no quite prepared for the Christmas and it will come in handy."

According to senior manager of branch banking Cecil Arnold it's the third year that they have been assisting families to meet their holiday expenses.
