Master traditional artist Pen Cayetano is coming home. After two decades in Germany the revered cultural figure says he’s coming back in July. And to get fans ready, he’s priming up with a show of 42 pieces at the Bliss Center. He told us it’s all about coming back to his roots.

Pen Cayetano,
“Well this time since I am coming home to live in Belize again it

is roots life, meaning Pen is coming back home to live his roots life as how he did before he went to Germany because sometimes people go out there and just get mixed up with different cultures and when they come back they feel they can’t come back. But I want to go back to the farm some day and I want to go to the cayes and I want to live that kind of life I left 20 years ago.

It is about flying fishing and the major piece is about life of the farmers and the fishermen. In this painting I did is about how the people used to live in that time and it is important that they see how it was to have lived in that time because around this time because Belize is a big farm, everybody has a place to plant food and roots life is all about your food and then it is what you have inside and then that goes outside.

Painting is a life for me. I don’t take it as any time for painting. Painting is a different world by itself.”

The show opens to the public tomorrow night.
