The Belize Council for the Visually Impaired is having its general meeting tonight. But more than just a humdrum meeting, they’ve spiced it up with a photographic exhibition. BCVI’s Public Relations Officer Carla Ayres Musa told us how the photographs

chronicle the work that the organization does.

“Most of the pictures are of our rehab and educational clientele. Those are children and adults who are blind or visually impaired who we provide with services, rehabilitative or educational. I think we want everyone to see them. They are beautiful pictures and it is not just about what we do, it is the actual love that our employees have for their clients and the bond that they have with the people we provide services for.
BCVI is known mostly for its eye care services and a lot of people don’t realize that there is this other side to us and this service is absolutely free to anybody who is blind, who is visually impaired, who it is going to help them to learn to use a cane, learn to read Braille, it will help children who are going into school, and we do have students who are in mainstream schools, and then we have a lot of services in terms of Braille production as well as training that people don’t know about and we just think it is to let people know that there is an option, that blindness is a disability but you don’t have to just be locked up in your house.”
The exhibition was scheduled to open tonight and it runs for one week.
