He is paralyzed from the waist down but over the last three days - Jerome Flores rode his recumbent trike from Corozal to Belize City. That’s right – he did it – all 90 miles over three days on his self-designed homemade trike. He rode in a fundraising ride sponsored by CARE which arrived in Belize City this afternoon. We met him at St. Joseph Primary School where he was the guest of honour. He told us about the ride.
Jerome Flores,
“I feel very very happy.”
Keith Swift,
What were the three days like?
Jerome Flores,
“Um to be honest, the last day, the shortest stretch was the most

challenging leg for me, today, but due to the time we left from Sandhill but the other days we left early and the breeze wasn’t bothering but today the breeze was in my face so it was a bit challenging.
It is the first time in Belize they have seen someone riding something like this.”
Keith Swift,
What does accomplishing this mean to you?
Jerome Flores,
“It makes me feel very good because then I am out here to help others, to make them feel good about themselves, to set their goals and work hard on their goals to get it accomplished because if I get this accomplished, that is just something to help them more.”
Keith Swift,
What do you hope others will learn from you?
Jerome Flores,
“Just to never give up. Things might be hard, it might be a bumpy road, it might be, a lot of problems might come in your way but no matter what just keep going forward and keep staying strong and just stay positive.”
Jerome Flores was at St. Joseph’s Primary School to receive a donation of $728 from the students. The money was raised by the students themselves who all paid to wear casual clothes today. The money was turned over to Flores.
