An outstanding Belizean has passed away. She is Bridget Cullerton, who died at her home in Dangriga last night after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Cullerton was 68. Cullerton, the mother of 7, returned to Belize in 1992 after thirty years working in the United States. She first worked at the Belize Enterprise for Sustained Technology and then went unto the post of Chief Executive Officer of the Belize Citrus Growers Association, where she was noted for her outstanding relations with the company’s international partners and for the substantially favourable agreements she worked out with creditors. William Bowman worked with her for many of those years in the citrus industry and today he gave us a remembrance.
William Bowman, Friend and Colleague
“Bridget has been a model pillar of strength even in her sickness to just about everybody, be it in citrus or those who knew her well. Bridget was the first Chief Executive Officer of the Citrus Grower’s Association. Her employment there was from 1997 until last year 2008. She was instrumental in helping to develop not only the Citrus Grower’s Association but the citrus industry. I can go on and on and on and on about the good that Bridget has done for the industry and for the growers. All I can say Jules is she was one great and wonderful woman, a pillar of strength. Knowing how sick she was and how long she had this illness, it never phased her even at work at any time at all. All I can say is we will miss her.
You what I said to you about Bridget was basically to do with citrus. Bridget has helped to raise so many children. Anybody who had children in problems, Bridget would take them to a home. She was like I said a wonderful woman, loving mother, and I can’t go on enough about how good she was to everybody.”
Bridget Cullerton had adopted two children in Belize and had 10 grandchildren from her 7 grown children. Her funeral has been set for Tuesday in Dangriga.
