The carnival road march isn’t until next Saturday but the partying in the streets began today. This evening revellers from the carnival bands on danced on top of big trucks – flooding the streets with the spirit of bacchanal. They were participating in the carnival association’s annual motorcade. Carnival Association President Patrick Thompson says the motorcade is to announce that carnival time is now.

Patrick Thompson, President – Carnival Association
“Well the motorcade is just to let people know that carnival is near and get ready and they will get a chance to see the amount of revellers who will be in the road march and the different bands.”

Keith Swift,
“Tomorrow is the King and Queen Contest. Can you tell us what to expect?”

Patrick Thompson,
“Well one thing I must tell you is expect a long night because this year we have a total of 35 entries so it will be a long night and I must say I’ve been visiting the different camps and the costumes are very beautiful this year. So look forward to a fun filled night with beautiful costumes, huge costumes.”

Keith Swift,
“And this is despite the fact that people have been complaining about poor sponsorship.”

Patrick Thompson,
“I don’t see that affecting the bands. As I said these costumes, they are very beautiful, colourful, and the bands really put in the extra work to bring out these costumes and to let the people on a whole have a fun time and watch the carnival.”

It was scheduled to start at the house of culture following the carnival motorcade. Children are free and adults pay $5.
