It is Christmas Eve and chances are that tonight you are making final preparations for the big day tomorrow. Whether it is baking that ham, seasoning that turkey, roasting your ham, sampling the rum popo, or wrapping gifts – the time and money invested into a single day is what makes it so special. And time and money aplenty were being spent on the streets today where we met hundreds of Belizeans in the frenzy of last minute shopping. Keith Swift has the story.

Keith Swift Reporting,
In A&R this morning we met last minute shoppers who didn’t have the time and others who didn’t have the money.

Shopper #1,
“We doing last minute shopping. We had to wait til the money came through and then get out and shop. I didn’t really want to wait this late, I wanted to get it done before now.”

Shopper #2,
“You know we work and today we worked until twelve midday and so we

hurried and do our last minute shopping now. I bought a few things but I have to visit some other stores. We stretched our money, we tried to find the cheapest ones.”

Shopper #3,
“Yes last minute shopping…I just came off work. I am looking for pots; iron pots. Money, it was worst. This year was slow.”

Shopper #4,
“Well not really last minute. Just one or two finalizing finish. One

or two things for the house. Mostly everybody gift got bought already.”

Shopper #5,
“Because of work and no kids. I am still looking around….I only have about three hours. I still have to go do my cooking…turkey, cake, beers.”

Downtown this afternoon, there was a throng of shoppers. There were long lines at the cash registers in Brodies and the Romac’s Shopping plaza was deluged by consumers.

Shopper #6,
“Ready as I will ever be. It is not so much about buying the gifts and so on but it is about spending time with family and friends and making sure that you have memorable events.”

Shopper #7,
“It is going good…I am not that close to done…but I am on my way sorry.”

The good news for you last minute shoppers is that most stores will be open late. A and r closes at 8 but the Downtown Shopping Plaza and Brodies on Albert Street will be open until 10 pm. And while we were out there – we gave shoppers the opportunity to send Christmas shout outs to their friends and families.
