It is Women’s Month and as part of a month long women in art celebration at the Bliss Center – the story of two strong women will take center stage at the Bliss Center on Friday night. The headliner will be Jackie Willoughby starring as Beverly Smith Lopez in “Yours in Arts and Culture, Bev” – a tribute of course to the drama pioneer. And then there is international actress Melissa Waddy-Thibodeaux who will portray Harriet Tubman the legendary abolitionist in “Escape to Freedom.” Waddy-Thibodeaux told us what to expect.

Melissa Waddy-Thibodeaux, Actress
“I will be doing the resurrection of Harriet Tubman for literacy. Harriet has come back from heaven, come down to earth because she has been watching and the children aren’t reading well, some of the adults are not reading. Harriet Tubman is warning everybody that unless we do something right now to turn it around and help these children, we are going to have slavery all over again because illiteracy is a bad thing. So I am hoping everybody comes out. It is enjoyable, it is entertaining, and it is very educational.”

Keith Swift,
“Who should come and see the show?”

Melissa Waddy-Thibodeaux,
“Everybody; children, older people, anyone. Everybody will understand and I think they will have a great time because not only is it telling our history, it is funny, and entertaining. There is singing, there is laughter, and all of the information is true.”

Showtime is 8 pm. Tickets are $15.
