On this very night one year ago, we were all reeling in disbelief: our beloved co-worker and friend, Keith Swift, was found dead in his apartment; he died of a brain hemorrhage.
Since then, here at 7news, it seems that nothing has been the same. We think of Keith every day, and miss his contribution, yes. but what we really miss is his style, the offhanded humour he brought to his work and his personal relationships, his presence, steady, reliable and irreplaceable.
Indeed, we are sure that Keith is also missed by you, our family of viewers, and tonight Jules Vasquez looks back at some of his best cuts:
Of course, that is only a very small portion of the immense, unmatched body of work that Keith left behind; enter his name in our web archives and it will pull up 3700 stories, and that archive only covered half of his career! And then when you realize that he input every single word that appeared on 7newsbelize.com between January 2004 and April 2010, you'll realize that not only is his contribution unmatched, it will probably never be matched.
And, even as we are still in awe at what our friend did, there's no celebration in the anniversary of a dear friend's passing, and so, to celebrate his life, in November, to commemorate Keith's birthday the Image Factory and 7News will team up to honor his memory with an award for a story that reflects what Keith did best: bring creativity to journalism. More details on that in November.
