And sacrifice during this strange Christmas is also the theme of the Prime Minister's Christmas Message. Large family get together's are strongly discouraged, and many don't even have the funds for a Christmas dinner, much less Christmas gifts - while the families of over 200 COVID victims are grieving.

A strange and sorrowful Christmas indeed, but the PM said, we can still find reasons to be thankful. Here's an excerpt form his message which was posted an hour ago on Facebook:

Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I know the joys of the holiday season has been greatly dampened by the Covid19 pandemic which has caused many of us to lose close relatives and friends. For many more it has caused tremendous hardships. This Christmas more than 45,000 Belizeans are unemployed and more will be unable to buy presents and have the kind of Christmas we are all accustomed to. Still, there is always reason to find hope at Christmas time. Our true true Belizean Christmas is not actually for sale in any store, it really is about sharing. So let's share by staying home and spending time with just those of our household. Let us use technology to reach out to our friends and neighbors. Remember, the best gift we can give them this year is to keep each other safe."
