Three months ago, we showed you the public announcement from the Ministry of Culture that the annual Carnival Road March would be making a return after two consecutive years of being on a "pandemic pause."
It's a significant part of Belize's month of patriotism, prevented by the pandemic it was a safety hazard to gather in the massive crowds - as the Carnival would normally attract. Now that the public health restrictions have mostly been lifted for a few months, the National Celebrations Commission will proceed with all the usual events that make up Belize's annual September traditions.
And kicking it off, NICH and the Ministry of Culture held their annual theme competition, encouraging citizens to submit their entries that could be chosen for this year's celebrations. The winning piece was unveiled this afternoon at the House of Culture, and 7News was there. Daniel Ortiz has that story:
