Twenty Belizeans were honored at this year's Tribute to Belizean Patriots Ceremony that took place on Sunday at Battlefield Park. The first awardee was Daisy Olga Marin, who received the Order of Distinction for her contribution to community service and entrepreneurship.

There were 15 awardees who received the meritorious service awards in the male category. They include Ivor Francisco Cacho for his contributions to music; David Lacey for his contributions to sports and community service; Jose Maria Acevedo for contributions to education; Paulino Elmer Rodriguez for contributions to the environment; Diodoro Novelo for contributions to community service and agriculture; Faustino Yam for contributions to culture; and Alan Usher for contributions to service in the military.

And for the female meritorious service awards, the recipients are Josephine Sutherland, Susana Eiley, Cruz Amparo Majil, and Maizie Williams, all for their contribution to community service.

Former US President Jimmy Carter has also been nominated to receive the Order of Belize in recognition for his friendship and support to the country.
