And in sad news, tonight we note the passing of one of Belize's softball legends, Patricia Bennet. Pat - as she was known - was the centerfielder on the softball team that won gold in Santo Domingo in 1974 at the Central American & Caribbean Games - a historic first time feat that has not been duplicated.

She passed away this morning at her home in Belize at the age of 73. She had been ailing with cancer for some years. And while she never had children, her brother tells us she was like a mother to her her brothers Leslie, Greg and Errol who carried on her softball tradition.

Bennett was also a noted educator, a committed unionist and a staunch Methodist. No date has been set for her funeral yet.
