When we closed the news last night - we switched over to live coverage of the Tribute to Belizean Patriots ceremony on September 13, at the Battlefield Park in Belize City.
Twenty-five outstanding persons were honoured - and they are not only Belizeans.
The awardees are, for
Order of Belize
· Former US President Jimmy Carter – In recognition of his distinguished record of friendship and support to Belize.
· and posthumously Gwen Lizarraga - For contributions to community service
The Order of Distinction went to
· Father Leo Weber, SJ – For contributions to education
While the Meritorious Service Award for women include awards to Lily Bowman - For contributions to community service
· Myrtle Palacio – For contributions to community and public service
· Maria Chang – For contributions to community service and business
· Olga Gordon – For contributions to community service
And the Meritorious Service Award – Male includes awards to
· Allan Sharp – For contributions to sports
· Doctors Kevin and Kenneth Guerra (posthumously) – For contributions to the medical field and COVID-19 pandemic
· Dr. Gregorio Garcia – For contributions to the medical field and
· Eworth Garbutt – For contributions to the environment.
Many others ere also recognized.
