After 30 years of dedicated service, the Belize Tourism Board has recognized Coxswain and Captain at the Conservation Compliance Unit in the Fisheries Department, Dwayne Garcia for his dedication and unwavering efforts towards marine conservation in the fisheries sector of Belize. He has been awarded with the Frontline Hero award for his accomplishments and contributions in fisheries enforcement. The BTB details in their release that when sea piracy was at its peak during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Garcia and his team rescued 18 fishermen who had been robbed at sea, and brought them back to safety. It is for this reason, and more he was named the frontline hero of 2023. Garcia also received $1,500 cash prize, courtesy of the Belize Tourism Board, and a two-night stay for two at Sirenian Bay Resort & Villas.
