Tonight, in the final part of our interview with the embattled mayor of Belmopan - we asked her about her recent travels to Dubai.

In political parlance, she is considered a lame duck mayor - that means she's not running for office again.

So what's the benefit to the municipality if she takes a tip to COP 28 - considering she won't be in office to implement any of the initiatives she's learning about?

Here's the exchange on that subject:

Sheran Palacio, Mayor of Belmopan
"And if you ask me what you brought back from Dubai, I brought back a platform for young people that I will be able to share with them. There's some funding directly from Bloomberg Foundation."

Jules Vasquez
"Someone will take your place in 60 days. And so you should not be seeking to aggrandize your position as mayor because in fact you are on your way out. So it can be argued you took this trip just for the joy of taking a trip, but it will have no permanence or institutional value."

Sheran Palacio, Mayor of Belmopan
"Jules, I want to educate you Jules."

Jules Vasquez
"Please do."

Sheran Palacio, Mayor of Belmopan
"Look, most people are selfish. Palacio is not selfish. Any opportunity, any benefit, I don't care if I'm going to be here or not. The idea, as I said from the very beginning, is to leave this place better than I found it."

"So I don't want to hear about I'm on my way out and I should be thinking like this, no man. Whatever opportunity, whatever benefit, we need to make sure that it is better. So that money that Bloomberg is going to send, is going to award to me under my leadership, I will gladly pass that on."

"And if there's anything that let's say that comes up between even after. I could send it to whatsoever."

Palacio has said that she plans to meet with both mass party candidates campaigning for the mayoral seat before she leaves office to effect a proper handover.
