And while that crowd is getting ready for the first City Lobster Fest, the Belize National Coast Guard held its first Family Day today. Hundreds of officers and their families came by for games, snacks, and family fun. Ensign Ruiz told us more.
Ensign Ruiz, Engineering Department, Belize Coast Guard
"It's countrywide so we have Coast Guard all the way from the north, all the way from the south that have brought their families to participate in our first family day."
"Our families are what supports us majority of the time when we are out at sea or working and we decided to dedicate one day back to them."

"We basically did ticketed activities where they can win prizes, we did tambola, we did the fish pond, the balloon dart and a kickball and they basically can win a prize on each one, they're guaranteed a prize for each one, we have the popcorn machine and the cotton candy machine which each child is entitled to one and then we have games to basically keep them entertained for example we have a small mini football field with goalposts, we have a basketball rim, we have cornhole and that's basically to entertain your child when the tickets are depleted. We also have trampolines and bouncy house."
"I was surprised that we received a lot of people this morning. I was expecting a small turn out towards the beginning and it getting bigger throughout the day but everybody came on time and we have a big crowd and I am glad that we have enough things to sustain the crowd itself."
