And, since we were on the parade square, we also asked Minister Musa about the Chester Williams' mural which was unceremoniously painted over shortly after he left office. As you heard, the plaques were originally donated by the family of a fallen officer as a memorial to all officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. And so, shortly after the mural was painted, it was removed, which irked the former commissioner and caused tension between him and the current ComPol. But Musa said that they've moved past it.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

"It's very unfortunate. I have maximum respect for both of the commissioners. Former Commissioner of Police Chester Williams obviously had a wonderful record as commissioner of police. I believe he did deserve to be honored. However, when you look at the circumstances of it, that particular plaque was a donation if I'm not mistaken, from one of the families of the deceased officers who the plaque was designated for, to honor all of the fallen soldiers who died in the line of duty. If you look outside now you will see the list of those individuals, those police officers who died in the line of duty. And so I don't know who made the decision to have done a portrait, but I believe in the first instance that should not have been done, because that's what that plaque was for. But having had the painting there, I also did not feel comfortable and I did not appreciate the painting over of the painting. So, and again, two wrongs don't make a right. It's a very unfortunate situation. I know that the both commissioners have been speaking since, and so hopefully it's something they can put behind them. But definitely I want to make the point that our former commissioner does deserve to be honored."
