And from high priced advisors to high priced rental spaces for government.
Last week, you heard at the NTUCB press conference that the government was spending about 2.5 million dollars yearly on rental fees. The PSU president pointed out that it would be much more fiscally prudent for GOB to build its own complex to house these ministries.
Well, the PM says that they've realized that already and that they're working on it.
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"We are working on that. If you notice, we're starting to work on building a judiciary center right here on Lake Independence boulevard. We're working along with Social Security and the Government of Belize and we're getting some investments from some other bondholders to be able to build a huge campus so we could put everything there. We're working on that, we want to get partnered either with the private sector or ourselves. Look at this place right here with the 5 C's, the government pays for that. We're paying $22,000 rent a month, that can pay a mortgage and that's exactly what we're working on. So you're not coming with nothing new, we are working on that, we are addressing it. But when you look and you don't have the exact number right now but when you see where we were in 2020 and where we are today and you see how much more rentals we've been getting, it's not much, from 2020."
