And as you heard, many of these animals that come into the clinic are wounded or have been struck and left on the roadside. It also turns out that a year ago, 19 year old Tamisha Jeal was working as an intern at the clinic when she was killed in a road traffic accident. In her memory and in honor of many others who have also died in RTA's the community will be hosting a motorcyclist, car and animal awareness motorcade on August 17th which will begin in Santa Elena and end at Blackman Eddy roundabout. Dr Isabelle spoke more about the event today.

Dr Isabelle Paquet-Durand, Director, Belize Wildlife Referral Clinic
"Tamisha Jeal was with us for atleast six months as a volunteer and then an intern and for me she was the first aspiring Belizean future wildlife veterinarian. But sadly she was killed in a road traffic accident last year and this Sunday her family and her mom are organising an awareness motorcade and a short little event right here at mile 60 on the George Price Highway and yes since road traffic accidents have been a big issues for us as a conservation organisation, 30% or 3 out of 10 of our animals come to us from the road side because they have been hit by something but Tamisha certainly drove home the point how we are connected to animals and humans alike are dying in these accidents that should often times be prevented by more caution go slow, look twice save lives, including your own and your own families."
