Belize City was named as a global finalist for the 2025 Bloomberg Philanthropies Local Leader Awards - making it one of the 26 chosen. This is due to the eMobility Pilot Project, which falls under the Clean, Reliable Transportation category. Today the Mayor told us more about it.

"Belize City has been nominated a finalist in the World Global Bloomberg Philanthropies under our project the E-mobility project. And so this Saturday, myself and team go to Brazil to take part in the award ceremony and so we are crossing our fingers to see if we win but we are a finalist and we are going up against cities like Oslo, Norway and Rio de Janeiro, Sau Paulo, big cities, Belize City a small little city of 70,000 is a finalist in the Bloomberg Philanthropies under the E-mobility project."

"And that's recognition or does anything else come with that?"

"I believe they do give you a grant for that but it's a huge recognition, it's a global award and for Belize City being recognized in that capacity, never done before."
The winners will be announced at the COP30 Local Leaders Forum in Rio de Janeiro in November.
