The United Nations Development Program has issued its annual human development report. The 285 page report documents the achievements and lack there of that countries have made over the past year. And being a part of the UN Belize is part of the report. Based on what the report states it's not looking at all good for Belize.

The human development index which measures achievements in terms of life expectancy, educational attainment and adjusted real income shows that Belize has dropped significantly in ranking. Belize's position this year is at 99 a significant decrease from last year's position of 67. Attributed to this is the fact that finally we are not claiming an adult literacy rate of 93.4%. The rate is now being listed at 76.9% which is offered by government sources to UNESCO.

The report classifies 177 nations with Norway being number one and Sierra Leone being 177th. In this region, Belize is doing only a little better than El Salvador which comes in at 103rd, much better than Guatemala at 121st and much worse than Barbados which comes in at 27th.
