The future of the financially troubled Excelsior High School has been the subject of speculation recently. Well our next story isn't about whether Excelsior High will remain open or not, students and teachers say their school will be around for a while. To prove it they are going ahead as normal with an annual tradition: The Miss Excelsior Contest. It has taken on extra meaning this year because it is being held to help the school financially. The pageant's coordinator is Lorna Matus who says supporting this contest will help to save this endangered educational institution.
Lorna Matus,
"We have been having difficulties financially and this is the reason why we are asking the general public to come out and support us because we need to raise funds to keep the school open. We ask the people to come out 11th March, which is this Friday, and come and enjoy yourself. Miss Excelsior Pageant is always a talent pageant. Its not a beauty pageant, a talent pageant, so when you come out you will see pure talent."
The pageant is Friday night at the Parish Hall beginning at 7 pm.
