Over the past four days teachers and dance instructors from across the country have been participating in a workshop to improve their creative self-expression. The workshop was conducted by Canadian social worker and modern dance teacher Hillary Anne Murray. We stopped in at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts where the workshop's participants put on display what they have picked up over the past few days.
Hillary Anne Murray,
"What you saw were people dancing using words as the inspiration to do the movements. So that is one. The other one was a mime which is basically where they look at everyday things that they do and then bringing movement and exaggerating the movement and turning it into a dance. The warm-up was just again for whenever you do a dance class, you normally warm up your body before you start to dance. So at the end of the warm-up I asked them to do some improvisation and what they did was either flowing with the music or walking with attitude."
The training is expected to be passed on to students in primary schools to improve self-esteem and expression.
