Today students from orange walk technical high school beat six other schools to claim the top prize in the annual ADM Belize Mills Secondary School Nutrition Quiz. The schools were asked just about everything about health and nutrition - literally from a to zinc. At the end though it was one question that sealed defeat for one school and spelt success for Orange Walk. Keith Swift reports.

With students dancing, students doing acrobatics, and Nutri-Power calling me on stage to dance with Emcee Edith Tesecum - today's quiz show at the princess may have looked like a variety show but it wasn't. After four grueling rounds of questions only two of the seven teams made it to the final round of the quiz show. In one corner there were the girls from San Pedro High and on the other one there was the team from Orange Walk Technical High. It was this question that spelt defeat for San Pedro.

"We didn't know what they were asking so we just said anything that came to mind."
Defeat for San Pedro meant victory for Orange Walk and for Delvy Flores - it was sweet.

"Good, great, I am so excited. We did a lot of after classes studying and weekends and as you can see it paid off because we are number one."
And for being number one - Flores' team took home a trophy. But the quiz is more than just about winning. Erika Goldson McGregor explains.

"We recognize that for some reason there wasn't much intervention done to address the whole attitude that people have towards healthy eating and exercising so we felt that as Ministry of Health, as Ministry of Education, and PAHO that we have to look at creative ways to try to get the information across to young people for them to change their whole behavior as it relates to dietary practices. We felt that this quiz would help us in achieving some of those goals."
Along with the trophy for their schools - the winning students were awarded tuition assistance. This was the seventh ADM Belize Mills Nutrition Quiz.
