The Ministry of National Development along with the Ministry of Works will be investing $2 million into upgrading school buildings across the city. The money is from the Commonwealth Debt Initiative, a CDB loan and the government of Belize. Four schools in the city have been identified and we were at Wesley College this morning where ground was broken for the construction of a 5 classroom school building.
Hon. Mark Espat, Minister of National Development
"Wesley College is a very important institution for all of Belize City, not just for the south side. Between the high school and the junior college, the recently opened junior college, there are almost eight hundred students on campus. What we are here today commemorating, celebrating is the start of a new five classroom first form wing for the college. If you look behind me you'll see that the conditions under which the first form students were learning were terrible; broken down buildings full of termites and so it had to be replaced."
Other schools benefiting from the program are Anglican Cathedral College, St. Luke's Methodist and St. John's Vianney School.
