On Friday primary schools across the country closed for the summer holiday. That means there are hundreds of children staying at home with nothing constructive to do. Well there’s one camp that’s affordable and open. For only one dollar a day you can get your son or daughter into this year's Eder Alamilla summer camp.

In 2007 two hundred participants filled the rooms at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts and in 2008 and equal number is expected to attend. For the past three years and in the memory of the artist Eder Alamilla the family has been hosting the camps for children who are not able to afford the cost of similar attend such events. Today 7NEWS caught up with one of the camp volunteers Ian Alamilla Okeefe who told us more about the 2008 summer camp scheduled from July twenty eight to August seventh.

Ian Alamilla Okeefe, Volunteer
“I guess it is something that he loved and so it is carrying on his dreams so it feels pretty good.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
What has the response been like?

Ian Alamilla Okeefe,
“Well it’s all been positive. Everybody enjoys it. We have a good time making friends. The focus this year is helping underprivileged kids that don’t have anything to do at home. Come to the Bliss and we could do art work.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
The projects are different?

Ian Alamilla Okeefe,
“The projects are different this year, this year we are doing tambourines, rain sticks, tie-dye t-shirts and many more.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
What do you think this does for the students who participate?

Ian Alamilla Okeefe,
“Well it gives them a different aspect on life in that artistic way.”

The summer camp will run from July twenty eight to August seventh. Remember it cost only one dollar a day or ten dollars a week and that does include art supplies. If you would like to register your child for the 2008 Eder Alamilla Summer Camp you can do so either at the Bliss or get in touch with Tanya Alamilla Mahler at Carpet Care Plus.
