The good news is that despite the rain, traffic began flowing across the Sittee River again yesterday evening. That is when the Ministry of Works finished construction of a temporary bridge across the river. CEO in the Ministry of Works Cadet Henderson explained by phone from his office in Belmopan.

Cadet Henderson, CEO – Ministry of Works
“Kendall Bridge was reopened at about 6:30 pm on Sunday, yesterday. We worked right through most of the night, Saturday night, and we had very good support from the private sector, particularly BNE this time around. We have now two bridges on line on the causeway which makes it about 90 feet of bridging we have along the causeway which reduces the risk of it being damaged by flooding. However we had quite a bit of rain since last night but fortunately for us, up to a report at three o’clock this afternoon, water is stable and we’ve noticed no evidence of rising. A lot of creeks before and after Kendall are rising. So that is the situation.

It is again fully restored, it is even higher than it was the last time around in terms of the gravel formation over the culvert. It is open to all traffic.”

There is still no good news from Mullins River where the causeway is still impassable.
