A dehydrator was handed over to the food and nutrition class at Canaan High School this morning. It is a machine used to preserve fruits and other food. It costs less than a thousand dollars but it was a big event today with National Security Minister Carlos Perdomo and Mayor Zenaida Moya in attendance. But the person making the donation was UDP councillor candidate Roger Espejo. He told us how the donation came about and why now.
Roger Espejo,
“Last year I was pondering of ways to increase nutritional value in schools and to basically spur a feeding program. So basically what we had today, I find analogues to planting a seed. It is a very small event but very meaningful because this is a program that we can take it at a higher level and take it across other schools if it is done and managed in a proper way.”
Keith Swift,
Why Canaan?
Roger Espejo,
“We looked across all schools across the city and it was based on a food and nutrition program which they had. We’ve been told by independent parties that their feeding program is a very good one and at the same time, we spoke to the Area Rep. Mr. Carlos Perdomo who out of all the schools in Caribbean Shores decided that they have a good feeding program and that we wanted to put this program in their hands and their responsibility so to speak.”
Keith Swift,
Is this timed just in time for the election or is it just a coincidence?
Roger Espejo
“Absolutely not.”
The dehydrator was actually donated to Espejo.
