And while the unlawful withholding of Social Security payments is a king-sized headache for the Mayor, the issue of the monies paid to her brother’s trucking company has also resurged with pestilential power. True the story first broke in the run up to the UDP convention when one of her own councillors blew the whistle, but this time, there’s proof, dozens of checks issued to Silvino Moya, his wife and other affiliates all signed by the Mayor. And though they bear her signature today she told us she didn’t know whose name we were talking about on some of those checks.

Keith Swift,
What we’re wondering is why were they made out to so many different names? We have Euwing’s, two Lino’s, Sharon Wade, S & M Company – why checks to so many differet names?

Zenaida Moya,
“Some of those companies you are talking about, have nothing to do

with me or my brother, for the record. Up to now I don’t even know who is Euwing.”

Keith Swift,
What about the two Lino’s?

Zenaida Moya,
“The two Lino’s, I guess my brother would know. I don’t know.”

Keith Swift,
Why would the checks be written to so many different persons if it is him doing the work?

Zenaida Moya,
“In the case of my sister in law, yes, I know about that situation. That is a time when he was in the U.S. doing some business, conducting some business in the US, and hence the reason why she was the one dealing with it.”

Keith Swift,
Did the council approve this?

Zenaida Moya,
“This is something that from the onset, the works and the goods, in this case it would materials, haul in materials, river run, stones, and so forth – these were materials that were needed. The Deputy Mayor, the same current Deputy Mayor Anthony Michael, he was at the moment very in need of materials, and if he wants to be honest he can speak on this matter, and at the time was very frustrated by the suppliers that we had, I won’t mention any names of the suppliers. It would be a case whereby we would call the suppliers and they would not deliver. We would call them and they would not deliver and they would pretty much make us look bad.

It was felt that at least he would care enough because he would want us to look good. And so at least ensuring that our council did not make our party look bad for the general elections, we did what we had to do.”

The payments between December 2007 and May 2008 are rumoured to total over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
