Last night, we showed a bit of what happened when Prime Minister John Briceno made a historic visit to Guatemala City to meet with President Alejandro Giammattei.
Briceno is the first Belizean Prime Minister to make an official visit with a sitting Guatemalan President. But, the reports on he trip from the government have been short on details and long on platitudes.
That's why it caught our attention when El Informativo Melchor news outlet reported that the maximum leaders of Belize and Guatemala arrived at a formal agreement on the passage of students between Guatemala and Belize.
The media house reports that there is a plan to aid students traveling daily from one nation to the other for their education - which we will not are almost solely Guatemalan students interring Belize.
The paper says immigration authorities will create a registry of students towards what is called a single migration paperwork.
The paper says the two countries want to establish a flexible system for student migration in which officials can monitor and update a registration database.
The two leaders have also reportedly agreed to establish mechanisms to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.
