The Leadership Intervention Unit - it's the body trying to increase the peace in gang ridden neighborhoods. But it's not just the combatants on the street - they also have to communicate with young people who are in school since they are often targeted by gangs.
That's why they are on an awareness campaign in high schools. Today they took a pastor, a media personality and someone who's lived the gang life to Gwen Liz high to give the students an education in facing down peer pressures. Here's more:
So far, the program has been to Maud Williams and Gwen Liz, and will go next Sadie Vernon and Excelsior. They plan to target all schools.
