What do kids really know about money - both how to spend it wisely and how to save it prudentially? Probably, not a whole lot - and, truth be told, low levels of financial literacy are a societal plague.

That's why the US Embassy, HRCU and the Ministry of Education sponsored a 12-week financial literacy programme for some of the youngest Belizeans.

It's an initiative that the Prime Minister in a reflective post this evening characterized as quote: " the building block for successful people, families, businesses, communities, and overall our national economy."

Cherisse Halsall attended the ceremony in Belmopan and brings us the following story:

And Babb isn't stopping there. She's seeking funding from other institutions with the most recent to come on board being Belize Bank. She hopes that additional funding will allow her to take the program to even more schools so that she can spread the message of early financial literacy to the most deserving of children.
