And yesterday you heard the father of the student lash out at the BNTU president for the comments she made about the situation. She explained that the union is mandated to ensure that due process is followed so that the teacher isn't taken advantage of, and that parents need to let the process follow each of its steps.
And today the BNTU issued a press release clarifying that while, yes, they must assist the teacher, they, quote, "…in no way defend the actions of any teacher who takes lightly the sacred trust bestowed upon them in this profession and condemns any form of pedophilic behavior." End quote.
The release reiterates that the union must represent the teacher in any instance where they feel they have been wronged, a service which is afforded to them because of the fees they pay.
The release ends by calling out media houses that misrepresented the president's words and the union's position, and emphasized that while they must ensure that the right of all teachers are protected, they also have to ensure that teachers full understand the responsibility they have in the profession.
