When it was announced that the Belize Companies And Corporate Affairs Registry -known as BCCAR would take over supervisory authority for Non-Profit Organisations and NGO's - there was a lot of pushback from that community.
But, in time there was consultation and many of the differences were ironed out.
Now, they're holding sensitization sessions across the country with NGO's and NPO's to explain how the new regs work. We stopped in at the city sensitization session at the BIM office:
Alma Galliano, Assistant Registrar, BCCAR
"The BCCAR along with the FSC we've come together to provide an educational campaign to the public in regards to the NPO's, the procedure, how to register an NPO, the compliance that comes with it, and how they go about doing the entire process. And basically we brought in a consultant from Jamaica and she is the one providing the educational aspect and we do have here our customer service reps as well should incase we have any queries from these MPOs we are here to assist."

"We do understand some of the hurdles, the challenges of the NPO's that they have encountered and really what we are here for is to explain to them that this is a very easy process it may seem complicated but this is what the registry is here for to assist everyone and just provide an easy process to registration and post registration."
Sensitization sessions continue in Belmopan and Punta Gorda this week.
