Caye Caulker Airstrip Closed for Urgent Repairs

Effective June 1st, urgent repair work will force the closure of the Caye Caulker municipal airstrip for six months.

What does this mean? Well as of next Tuesday no airplanes will be able to land on Caye Caulker so the only way to access the popular tourist village on will be by water taxi.

A government release says repairs are necessary because of severe settlement in two locations which have caused the runway to become unsafe. The repairs which should take six months will improve the structural integrity of the runway.
