The old generals advise that one should never mistake success in an early skirmish for winning the war, but today SATIIM threw that kind of conservative caution to the win, when it held a victory press conference. And maybe rightly it should have, SATIIM was pitted against a transnational corporation. A huddle of community leaders from the villages gathered at the Radisson this evening to celebrate that their power to control their communities had been vindicated by the Courts. Greg Choq said it is a victory not only for SATIIM, but for the environment.

Greg Choc, SATIIM Executive Director
"We believe that today's riling is a victory for the environment and development in Belize. I think it demonstrates the maturity of a nation where the need to balance development and safeguard those assets, environmental assets, that many of our rural people depend on. So I think SATIIM is leading the way towards this, I am very proud and want to commend my staff, my Board, and the people who have stood with us during these challenging times and we look forward to continued support over the next three or four months."
