And from the judiciary to the legislature, petroleum decisions and policies are everywhere. Tomorrow in the National Assembly building, the government was scheduled to present legislation which calls for a 40% income tax on oil companies. We say was scheduled to because the Speaker of the House has ordered that the meeting be rescheduled until Monday to respect the death of the Leader of the Opposition's mother. The meeting will now be held on Monday.
The income tax is expected to attract argument as the business tax would have drawn greater tax revenue on a regular basis but Belize Natural Energy argued that it could not set it off as international tax credits. More on that is sure to be heard next week.
